Kangaroo Island (KI) is just a 45 minute ferry ride away from the Cape Jervis along the coast of Southern Australia. Even though it is only 70 miles away from the bustling town of Adelaide, it is a world on its own. KI is the third largest island in Australia after Tasmania and the Melville Islands. The land is pretty diverse and you can find activities to enjoy your vacation all through the year. The island is pristine and has much to offer for tourists. A trip to Australia will not be complete until you visit the third largest Kangaroo Island. The island is divided into four regions, Kingscote, Penneshaw, Parndana and the American River. Shuttle services are available for people to move between these regions. KI is not a small island which can be covered by foot. It is best to rent a car to enjoy the attractions thoroughly. There are no taxi services in the island but you can transport your car from the mainland through the ferries.
The island is especially famous for its wildlife and the beaches. You cannot miss the beautiful sights of kangaroos hopping along the roads with kids in their pouches. The animals are active at the times of dawn and dusk and you should be careful while driving at these times. Koalas are also found around Flinders chase national park and around vivanne bay. Echidnas can also be seen in the wild. One other attraction that drives people to KI is the penguins. You can take a evening guided walking tour from Kingscote or Penneshaw to see a whole lot of penguins parading on the shore. Fur seals, sea lions and pelicans can also be seen. In Pandarna wildlife park, you will be able to get near the Kangaroos and even feed them. In addition to the wildlife, there are limestone caves, beautiful rock formations and picturesque lighthouses. There is so much to do and to see on this island that no tourist goes back without forming pleasant and unforgettable memories.
