It’s not for everyone, but for those who don’t mind a bit of a walk and are fans of the camping lifestyle then backpacking is the best kind of holiday you could possibly have. You can do it by your one and only self or have a few friends tag along for the journey, plus there are hundreds of great spots to do it in. There are plenty of good reasons why you should give it a try, and here we look at but a few of them to see if you can be swayed.
Exercise & Fresh Air
There is nothing better for the human body than a bit of light exercise and pure untouched air. It can really make a big difference for those who live in the city as the change is almost instant. Regular trips are even likely to give you a few extra healthy years in the long run, plus it can really help you to feel better if you’re a bit run down. You might think of exercise as a bit much for a relaxing holiday, but you don’t have to run a marathon for it to make a difference. Just a few walks around the towns are enough to keep you ticking.
Learn Vital Survival Skills
Being that you’ll be in the middle of nowhere for the most part you’ll need to pick up a few much needed skills to ensure your safety. This varies from finding and collecting firewood to knowing what berries are safe to eat. It can be quite fun and interesting to learn these skills, especially if you are part of a group. Make sure that before you leave for a certain destination that you have all the important information such as dangerous animals, medical supplies needed and local laws. The last thing you want to do if offend and town and get arrested in the middle of nowhere!
Get Closer To Nature
Mother Nature is one of the most beautiful things our planet can offer us, and in some areas the wildlife is completely untainted. You’ll probably see a few regulars such as swallows or mice but if you’re lucky you might see a few rare finds. You should, however, to be careful when it comes to avoiding local predators. As we said before, learn about the destination before you set sail as you never know what could be around the corner. Make sure you also know exactly where the nearest hospital is should you fall it or be attacked by an animal.
A Chance To Reflect
Backpacking is considered by many to be the perfect time to stop and think about your life from the inside out. Having so much time to your thoughts can give you much more clarity, especially for those who backpack alone, and means you don’t get distracted by anyone or anything. The fresh air can really make you feel quite relaxed, you can spend hours on end just standing against the wind and letting nature take care of your worries and woes.
Getting To Know Your Friends Better
If you’ve gone as a group, there’s nothing better than sitting around a campfire and exchanging stories. You can learn a lot about certain people when you’re placed in this sort of situation. Group travelling is the way forward as bigger numbers keeps your group safer and means more knowledge within the group to work with. It also means more people to talk to should you need a shoulder to cry on or an ear to lend. Backpacking with friends can make you a much closer group than when you first set off, it’s great.
